Abstract: This work aims to valorize clay sourced from the locality of Leboulou, Kimbangou District, Niari Department, southeastern Congo. With this in mind, we proceeded to determine the mineralogical, physicochemical, thermal, and geotechnical properties of this clay. To achieve the expected results, several techniques were employed, including x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gravimetric and differential thermal analyses, scanning electron microscopy, chemical analysis by ICP-AES, Atterberg limits, particle size analysis, and cation exchange capacity. Mineralogy reveals that Kaolinite is the only clay species present in this clay, associated with quartz, with a kaolinite-to-quartz ratio of 88.37% to 11.63%, respectively. The geotechnical properties reveal that LEB can be compared to a very plastic clay and loamy soil, with a plasticity index of 26.6, and contains 58% of fine particles (less than 2 microns). With these properties, LEB cannot be used for the applications proposed by WINKLER, it would be necessary to add to this clay a material less rich in fine particles, such as sand. Chemical analysis reveals that the dominant minerals in this clay are aluminum and silicon oxides. The Al2O3/SiO2 ratio = 0.6 will limit the use of LEB in pottery and earthenware. It could also be used in the manufacture of geopolymer cement and as an ingredient in the production of paints.

Abstract: The complex with zinc (II) of Ligand (2- (benzoylamino)-3-sulfanylpropanoic) acid was made and analyzed using FT-IR, UV-visible, mass spectrometry, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, SEM and powder XRD. DFT calculations were also used to detect the electronic properties & structural stability. The antimicrobial investigation demonstrated that the zinc (II) complex had better bacterial killing action against E. coli (MIC: zinc (II) complex > Ciprofloxacin > Ligand) and antifungal action against A. niger (MIC: zinc (II) complex > Ligand > Amphotericin B). And the Zn (II) complex was more antioxidant active than the free ligand in the DPPH assay, as evidenced by its lower IC 50 (~420 0). Molecular docking experiments have indicated a better binding affinity of the zinc (II) complex with major antioxidant, antimicrobial, and enzyme inhibitory proteins compared to the free ligand. The anticancer effect of the Zn (II) complex on MCF-7 cells was demonstrated to be stronger than that of the free ligand in the MTT assay, revealing that the Zn (II) complex is suitable for further development as a drug. Docking of 3D ribbon structures was used to confirm these interactions. The improved stability and electronic features of the complex, due to zinc coordination, explain the increase in its activity.

Abstract: This paper provides a comprehensive overview of statistical methods employed in sample-based radiological characterization of radioactive waste (RAW), with a particular focus on the use of nuclide vectors (NVs) and scaling factors (SFs) as applied in commercial RAW characterization projects. These methods are crucial for estimating the activity of difficult-to-measure (DTM) radionuclides by establishing correlations with easy-tomeasure (ETM) key nuclides (KNs), thereby minimizing the need for time-consuming and costly radiochemical analyses. A scaling factor (SF) is defined as the ratio of the activity (or specific activity) of a DTM to that of a corresponding KN in a given sample. The applicable standard deviation (SF) is typically determined as the geometric mean of the standard deviations (SDs) calculated from all samples, providing a robust and statistically representative value. The nuclide vector (NV) represents the relative distribution of individual radionuclides within the total activity of a sample or waste stream. NVs are recommended to be derived using the one-sigma concept, which assumes that approximately 68% of all possible values fall within a defined acceptance range, improving statistical confidence. For NVs and SFs to be valid, the underlying datasets must meet several criteria: they must be representative, span a wide range of activity levels, and be statistically homogeneous, meaning they follow a standard or log-normal distribution. Additionally, datasets must be free from significant outliers, typically identified using the Grubbs test, and show adequate correlation between radionuclides, assessed via Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficients. The methodology is demonstrated using data from 10 samples containing Mn-54, Co-60, Nb-94, Fe-55, Ni-63, and Sr-90. Results confirm that the calculated NVs and SFs are statistically valid and representative, supporting their practical application in modern RAW characterization.

Abstract: A novel four-step scientific protocol has been reported for the synthesis of thiazolo- [1,2,4] triazolo[1,5-a] pyridine and its derivatives (6a-c) as target moieties in good overall yields by using 1-(2-(Trifluoromethyl)-5-methylthiazol-4- yl) ethanone (1) as starting compound. The IR, PMR, Mass spectral data, and elemental analysis validated the chemical structures of all the intermediates and products. Furthermore, the newly synthesised intermediates and final derivatives were screened for their antibacterial activity against different bacterial strains, and it was found that a few of them exhibited noteworthy antibacterial activity with varying degrees of disparity.
